Dota 2世界大会2連覇『OG』、スクリムで10連敗した『Team Liquid』のスタイルをコピーして大化けした裏側を披露

Dota 2世界大会で2連覇を達成した『OG』でキャプテンを務めたN0tail氏が、勝利の裏側に関するエピソードを披露しています。

『PGL Wallachia Season 5』の関連コンテンツとして、公式世界大会『The International』でチャンピオンになった実績を持つPuppey、N0tail、KuroKyの3名によるトーク企画が実施されました。

3名は元チームメイトだった時期もあり、お互いが知り合った際のエピソードや世界大会の裏側に関するトークを展開しています。

N0tail氏が所属する『OG』は、2018年と2019年に世界大会を連覇するという偉業を達成しました。
特に2018年はオープン予選から勝ち上がり優勝するという信じられない展開を見せてくれました。

しかし、OGはは大会直前のスクリムでTeam Liquidに10連敗したほどで、そこからどのようにチームを立て直していったかという裏側が披露されていました。

KuroKy：
TI8前に、OGとたくさんスクリムをやったのを覚えているよ。
その時、OGはTeam Liquidに1回も勝てなかった。

N0tail：
そう。これはいままでカメラの前で話したことがないかもしれないですけど、実はTI8に向けてTeam Liquidがブートキャンプをやってくれたんです。

OGはそもそもオープン予選を勝ち抜く必要があったから、ブートキャンプをたくさんやりました。

オープン予選は本当に大変で、毎朝なんとかベッドから起き出して全力で挑みました。
その結果、オープン予選を突破することができて、チームも素晴らしい形になっていきました。

ゲームに対する理解も深まって、情熱とモチベーションも強化されて、短期間で本当に素晴らしいチームになることができたと感じていました。

そして、TI8本戦に向けてカナダでさらにブートキャンプを実施した時には、戦略・プレイのどちらにおいても負ける気がしないという感じでした。

そんな状態でTeam Liquidとスクリムをしたら、結果は10連敗でした。
Team Liquidにとっては、赤子の手を捻るような感じだったと思います。

毎試合、どうしたら勝てるかを話し合い、全力で準備してみましたがTeam Liquidには全く歯が立たなくて、何もできませんでした。

TI8前の最後のスクリムでも負けて、メンバーたちと芝生に座りながら呆然としてたのを覚えています。

チームがおかしいわけではなく、結束できている状態でした。
お互い「何が悪いんだ？」と話し合った結論は、「もっと速く、上手くプレーしなければ勝てない」ということでした。

そしてTeam Liquidとのスクリムからたくさんの戦略を取り入れました。
Nature’s Prophetを採用して、実際に本戦で何度もピックしました。
レーニングのコンセプトをマネしたり、全く使っていなかったChenを起用したり、とにかく学んだことを取り入れていきました。

Team Liquidとスクリムをする前のOGは、ゲーム展開が速いチームではありませんでした。Team Liquidとのブートキャンプに、本当に感謝しています。

その時のTeam Liquidは、ハイペースなゲーム展開を採用していました。
他のどのチームもやっていなかったけど、速いDotaが大好きなんです。

N0tailは速いDotaの本質を理解して、謙虚に学んだのだと思います。
Team Liquidのメンバーは、速いゲーム展開の本質をもちろん理解していました。
しかし、他のチームは全く理解していませんでした。

Johan(N0tail)はTeam Liquidのスタイルをコピーし、さらに次のレベルへと進化させたんです。その完成形がTI9で披露されたという感じでした。

N0tail：
TI8の時点で、OGは最高のチームメイトではあったけど、最高のチームという感じではありませんでした。
LGD(決勝の対戦相手)のほうが戦略やヒーロー理解度が高かったし、才能の面でも優れていたと思います。

チーム戦力は均衡していたと思いますが、OGがLGDに勝つことが出来たのはメンタル面と団結力で上回っていたからです。「True Sight」でこの点について確認することができます。

LGDは2人がタバコを吸いながら話をしていてチームが崩れていきました。
OGはいつでも全員が結束していました。

LGDは最後のゲーム5で完全に崩れていて、それはメンタルの差だったと思っています。

個人としてもOGとしても、TI9で最高レベルに達することができたと感じました。

KuroKy：
OGは、速いゲーム展開を自分たちのチームよりもさらに上手くやっていると感じていました。

N0tail：
あのOGを作り上げることができたのは、間違いなくTeam Liquidとのブートキャンプのおかげです。

KuroKy：
それが競技の進化といういものです。
みんなが強いチームから学び、それを取り入れてさらに発展させていく。
モデルとなるチームを超えて進化していく。
これこそが競争の仕組みです。
