『Legacy Weekly Japan』は、その名の通り毎週開催される『StarCraft II』の個人主催大会です。
2015年10月にスタートし、2026年5月3日(日)に通算500回の節目を迎えました。現在では、すでに510回を超えています。
日本のスタークラフト2コミュニティ大会「Legacy Weekly Japan」は、無事に(笑)第500回大会を終えました！

10年以上にわたって、大会の運営・配信を毎週続けていくのは並大抵のことではありません。 500回以上も大会を開催し続けているHorikenさんに、モチベーションや大会に対する想いについて質問させていただきました。
――「Legacy Weekly Japan」500回達成、おめでとうございます！まずは簡単に自己紹介をお願いできますでしょうか

Legacy Weekly Japanは日本向けのStarCraft2ウィークリートーナメントです。毎週日曜日の夜8時から開催しており、私Horikenがマネージャーとして運営・実況を担当しています。
――まず、500回を迎えた率直な感想を教えてください
Horiken
ありがとうございます！500回、改めて考えるととんでもない回数ですね…。
年を取ると時間の経過に無頓着になりますから、本当にそんなにやったのかな？そんなに時間が経ったのかな？と、あまり実感が湧いていないというのが率直な感想です。
――「Legacy Weekly Japan」がスタートしたのはいつでしょうか？始めたきっかけは、どのようなものだったのでしょうか？
Horiken
実はもともと自分が始めた大会では無いのです。
2015年の10月頃に、前マネージャーの方が中心となり、StarCraft2のウィークリートーナメントをやろう！ということで始まったのがLegacy Weekly Japanです。
当初は自分はスタッフの1人で、たまに実況をやる程度でした。
1年程経ち、前マネージャーの方が多忙で運営が難しくなったことから、自分が運営・実況として引き継いだ、という経緯になります。
――大会名の「Legacy Weekly Japan」には、どのような意味や思いが込められていますか？
Horiken
元々はStarCraft2の最終拡張である「Legacy of the Void」から取ったものだったと記憶しています。大会のスタートが、まさにその拡張とほぼ同時でした。
しかしここまで続いた今になると、まさにレガシーそのものになったとも言えますね。
――個人で毎週開催を続ける中で、「もうやめようかな」と思ったことはあったでしょうか？
Horiken
引き継いだ時は軽い気持ちだった割に、実は意外と無いんですよね。
トラブルや問題自体は色々とありました。
参加者が3人にまで減ってしまった時もありましたし、参加者間でのトラブルや、長くスポンサーして頂いた企業の日本撤退により個人運営になってしまったこと…。
そのたびに賞金やルール、やり方を変えたりして何とか対処してきたのですが、問題のたびに頭を抱えつつも、不思議とやめようと思ったことはありませんでした。
――500回の中で、特に印象に残っている大会、試合、参加者とのエピソードがあれば教えてください。
Horiken
そこまで大きいシーンではありませんから、優勝者はどうしても、ある程度特定の人に偏ってしまいます。そんな中でも、番狂わせが起きた時はすごく印象に残りますね。
つい最近も、10年近く参加してくださっている方が初めて優勝したんですよ！運営・実況者として贔屓は良くないですが、歴史を感じるとともに嬉しかったのを覚えています。
後はやはり参加・視聴していただいている皆さんのサポートです。
今はスポンサーがいませんので、いわば自腹で運営しています。金銭的に楽ではありませんが、そんな中でもサブスクやビッツ、ギフト券などでたくさんの人にサポートして頂いており、本当にありがたく思っています。
先日は海外の国別対抗戦で好成績を残した参加者の方々が、その大会の賞金をビッツしてくれたりもしました。私だけでなくみんなで作っている大会なんだなと実感します。
――500回以上も大会を継続している最大のモチベーションは何でしょうか？
Horiken
日本のStarCraft2シーンを絶やしたくない、という気持ちももちろんありますが、一番は自己実現なのかなと思います。
自分自身やっぱりStarCraft2が好きですし、実況も好きですから、大会実況の機会が毎週1回ある、というのはやっぱり嬉しいことです。
そして何より、日本のStarCraft2ファンの人たちが参加者・視聴者問わず毎週日曜日に集まって、好きなものを共有できる場を作れている、というのが一番の喜びです。コミュニティのために何か出来ている、役に立てている、と実感できる時間ですからね。
逆に言えば、自分のためだからこそ、ここまで続けてこれたのかもしれません。
――StarCraft IIは歴史あるeスポーツタイトルですが、残念ながらいまではメインストリームなタイトルではなくなってしまいました。そのような中で、大会を開催し続けることには、どのような意義があると考えていますか？
Horiken
StarCraft2は今年から『Esports World Cup』での採用も無くなり、大規模なプロシーンは実質なくなってしまったようなものです。そうなると、シーンを維持できるのはコミュニティの力のみということになります。親（Blizzard）はもうあてになりませんからね…。

海外では色々な配信者や団体がコミュニティ大会を続けていますし、日本においては私がLegacy Weekly Japanを続ければ、シーンが無くなってしまうことはありませんので、それが意義なのかなと思います。
以前は公式のプロシーンが終わる時にLegacy Weekly Japanも終わりにしようかな、なんて考えていたこともあったのですが、今は全くそう思わなくなりましたね。
――今後、「Legacy Weekly Japan」を続けていく上で目指す目標がありましたら教えてください
Horiken
目標は本当に続けることだけですね。もっと大きい大会にしよう！みたいな野望はあまりなくて、自分が無理なく続けて、日本でStarCraft2が好きな人たちが週に1回集まれる場を、可能な限り長く提供し続けるのが目標です。
続けていくためにも、もしかしてこの先、StarCraft2を超えるRTSが出てくれば、そちらに乗り換えてもいいとも思ってます（実はそういう計画があったんですが、ここ数年で出た新世代RTS達が軒並みうまくいかなかったので…）。
それでもあえて数値目標を言うならやっぱり1000回ですね！あと10年かかることになりますが、ぜひ成し遂げたいです。もっとも私もいい年なので、そのためには健康を維持しないといけませんね。
その時までStarCraft2が続いていたら驚きですが、韓国では前作『StarCraft: Brood War』 はもう25年以上遊ばれていますから、有り得ない話ではないのかも…
