この数日、「GeoGuessr」がサウジアラビア・リヤドで開催される『Esports World Cup 2025』に参加する事に関する、みなさんの反応を見てきました。
『Esports World Cup 2025』に参加する事を決めたのは、前向きな意図でした。
中東の「GeoGuessr」コミュニティと繋がりを構築し、「GeoGuessr」の基本理念「誰でも世界を探検」を広めたいと考えました。
Erland、Anton、私の3人が2013年に「GeoGuessr」を創業して以来、「コミュニティファースト」なゲームを目指してきました。ストックホルムのオフィスで働くスタッフ全員が熱狂的な「GeoGuessr」ファンで、みなさんと共に、みなさんのために「GeoGuessr」の開発に全力を尽くしています。
コミュニティのみなさんの反応を見て、『Esports World Cup 2025』に参加することは「GeoGuessr」の理念に反するものであることがはっきりとわかりました。
みなさんに「間違っている」と指摘されたことについて、私たちは真摯に受け止めます。リヤドで開催される『Esports World Cup 2025』への参加を辞退することを決定しました。
『Esports World Cup 2025』での付与を予定していた『2025 GeoGuessr World Championship』ワイルドカード出場権の取り扱いについては、改めて発表します。

「GeoGuessr」の『Esports World Cup 2025』参加・辞退について
「GeoGuessr」は、ランダムに表示されるGoogleストリートビューの情報を元に、それがどの場所であるかを当てるブラウザゲームです。
5月17日に、『Esports World Cup 2025』内で『2025 GeoGuessr World Championship』のラストチャンス予選を実施することが発表されていました。
そして、約1週間で「GeoGuessr」が参加辞退の決定を下す結果となっています。

『Esports World Cup 2025』は、eスポーツ史上最高賞金総額7000万ドル以上(約100億円, $1=143.78円)で注目を集める大会です。
世界トップクラスのeスポーツチームともパートナーシップを結び、有力選手たちが『Esports World Cup 2025』の出場を目指して競い合います。
24の正式競技ゲームタイトルに加えて、『Esports World Cup Festival』で様々なゲームと連携した大会等も実施されます。「GeoGuessr」は、『Esports World Cup Festival』で展開されるゲームとなる予定でした。
